Waterford Police Officers tour Submarine USS Annapolis

by Waterford Police PBA on October 17th, 2009

Waterford Police Officers and other Law Enforment officers from the New London County area toured Naval Submarine Base Groton on October 14, 2009.  The tour began with a trip to the Submarine simulator where they tried several to steer the simulated submarine 688i.  Needless to say, the US Navy wasn’t accepting applications after seeing what they did.  The next stop was to the escape trunk simulator where they watched a current class of students from Submarine School practice escaping in orange suits and rising 40 feet in the water tower.  From there they moved onto the casualty simulation facility.  There they saw the how sailors train to confront broken water pipes and various types of problems that can occur while under way.  They finished up the official part of the day with a tour of the USS Annapolis, a 688i class submarine.  The tour of the submarine really brought home the sacrifice that the sailors go through to work in such cramped quarters while defending our country.

The end of the day finished up with a round golf and lunch at the Sub Base golf course and Chief’s Club.  We want to thank all the sailors, enlisted and officer who gave up part of their busy day to show us around.
