Switching to COPS Union
All,
The petition hearing at the State Labor Board is being held today with the COPS Union and Council 15. This petition hearing with the labor board will allow us to hold an election with our membership to switch from Council 15/AFSCME to COPS Union. In order to hold an election to switch unions, 30% of the membership must petition the state to hold an election. 71% of our local membership requested that an election be held. Council 15 is going to try and block our petition to hold the election to switch unions at the hearing today. I do not anticipate this being successful.
I will be hearing from the board today with the outcome of the petition hearing and will let everyone know when the election is being held.
Council 15 representatives will be available at Oswegatchie Firehouse on February 1st and will be at our Union meeting on February 4th to answer any questions.
If anyone would like to speak with a COPS representative, I can schedule them to meet with the membership again. Or I can provide contact information/telephone number for you to call.
Any questions, please contact any of our WPD Union Officers.
