Waterford Police radios upgraded to digital system

by Waterford Police PBA on April 27th, 2010

Wondering why you can’t hear Waterford Police anymore on those old scanners?  We have upgraded.  The town of Waterford concluded a major upgrade to the town-wide radio system last week.  Police officers, who were using a 20+ year old radio system, had poor coverage in many areas of town.  Radios in their cruisers were spotty and their portable radios were worse.  The old system consisted of one radio tower for the entire town.  The new system has five towers which offer 99% coverage on car and portable radios.  This is a tremendous benefit to the safety of our police officers.  It also provides for better safety for our residents.  The new equipment is also compatible with neighboring police agencies and other local government such as fire and town highway.
